As a photographer, I like lightroom so must say i’m not a fan. Customer service is suspect in giving me a credit to hold (to avoid any possible copyright)
but doesn’t work on a variety image formats, will only work on a specific format..doesn’t crop…or even display a lot of the info…doesn’t handle RAW like Aperture…yes, Sony just added Aperture compatibility so it’s not as though I have to switch.
Having said that, none of the other programs my clients are using will let me look at their images and see if they are in RAW format. I can’t help them from my workstation. Anyway, supporting RAW and other formats is an even greater issue now with Adobe’s aggressive move to include the AdobePatent in the EULA for all other applications.
To be honest, I am a fan of the Lightroom team and their work in the past. I’d even like Adobe to include more people of their team in the Lightroom forums. But as I said, a lot of the issues I mention involve a heavy cost to the user.
I’d like to see Lightroom improve with time. Give me the ability to backup images before import into Lightroom, have a darkroom. Aperture look more like Lightroom in that it seems to be more “open” or at least have an option to be more open (it seems to lock pictures to 1 file only with the old apeture). I like the ability to use Lightroom with Windows. The Adobe Patents on other programs include a lot of useful things, but aren’t exactly used to their best advantage.
Oh well, I’m not blind to the issues. My main issue is that my clients don’t really understand Lightroom. So many are using slates and ARM devices and they are all going to switch to something else. But it will be sad to see them go. Although, between Lightroom and Photoshel, they are getting fairly good at backing the up the images using Conduit (or using the RAW images to work on them, which, however, I’m not allowed) and setting up back ups before they release. đ
