owen, you may want to contact maxsea and ask them, or jason if hes still there to tell them what their customers think. i would also recommend they send you a copy of the cahi daughters guide for navigating the intracoastal. that may help to give you an idea of how the intracoastal has changed over the years. i can try to help you out with the locations, but i dont know exactly where you are and have little experience in that area. the intracoastal itself has a ton of buoys and signs to keep you aware. the key is to know the channel layout. im not sure how we would approach that on mstz.. i would guess that we would need a clear full size chart of the area. it may not even be possible to get that.

can you share some of your frustration and suggestions for improvement with maxsea? i was also disappointed to see how much narrower the channel markers were compared to the noaa chart i bought, but i bet other features such as open water passages weren’t recognized either. as a former navy guy, i’m a little tough on software engineers, but i do feel this program could be improved by getting something more like the noaa product that they were originally designed to replace.

mstz charts are very nice, but a little off for me. i bought my previous c-map charts, and i purchased mstz because i was looking for a simple solution. i wasn’t looking to have a complex chart database. i am not concerned about the issues that you indicate. i will continue to buy maxsea and use their products. i know that there are people that will tell me that i need to “upgrade” to usgs, etc., etc.. my software is perfectly fine. i wish that the mstz software was more robust. if that is the case, then i would love to have a choice.

is there a way to start/stop the network? e.g. can i turn off my broadband modem, connect a router to my lan port, and then turn on my modem and everything will work? i’m hoping to have a few pcs on my lan so that i can use the internet from the laptop that i’m on right now, but i can’t rely on wireless to connect it to the internet. i also don’t want to have to keep a laptop with a modem in the cockpit and have the boat be without internet for a long time. so the idea would be to connect the modem to a router and connect the router to the laptop with a cat 5 connection to the modem so that i can get internet from the laptop. does that sound like it would work? i’m going to have the modem in a closet near the cockpit, so there is room to run a cat 5 cable from the closet to the laptop.
hi, i’m having problems with time zero displaying on my tablet. i have a nitro2d v2.05 tablet. i’m using the time zero shortcut key (which is the label on the tablet). when i launch time zero, it says “mfd failed to start”. if i take off the sensor network and just connect it to my mfd serial port, it just shows the default mfd map. any suggestions? thanks, jason
i have never had any luck with timezero and navionics charting. i have tried everything from using my garmin chart plotter, to connecting via serial port, or usb. the only chart i can get to work with mstz and navionics charting is c-map. i can use any chart that is supported by navionics charting (if i get c-map to work), or even my garmin gps, or arcgis, or google earth. it seems that c-map is the only chart that works with mstz. this is a very frustrating situation because i have not found any way to get either of my chart plotters to work with mstz. also i don’t see any possibility of getting a chart plotter that is compatible with mstz and navionics. perhaps that is why furuno has not had much interest in developing mstz. the business case for mstz is not strong if you don’t have a compatible chart plotter. but i have been waiting for mstz to work, as i am using c-map for my charting. i am currently using navionics for my charting. but i am now more interested in getting c-map to work with navionics. i have tried all kinds of combinations of the various input channels. i have run mstz in windows 7, windows 8, windows 10 and windows 10 64-bit. i have no idea what the problem is. i get no errors, no warning, nothing. but c-map won’t work with mstz. perhaps someone can help me with this problem.
