there are other issues, but they are small, and most of them are because of the time constraints the filmmakers had to work with. one of the biggest problems is that of the chucky dolls. not only is the line between chucky and chucky 2 different than between chucky 1 and chucky 2, but the two chucky dolls used in curse of chucky have facial appearances that seem to suggest that they are even older than chucky 2. for example, chucky’s eyes appear to be made of glass, and the skin on his face seems to be a bit more wrinkled than that of chucky 2. this makes it very difficult to tell which of the dolls is which. it’s a problem that is only compounded when chucky enters the scene and the two chucky dolls start to fight each other. it’s not clear who is who, and it doesn’t really matter. the movie doesn’t require that you know which doll is which, and it would be overkill to introduce a fourth chucky for the sake of the movie. the most likely conclusion is that the first chucky is chucky 2. the problem with that, however, is that he seems to be older than chucky 2, and older chucky dolls have not been seen before, so the audience would have no way of knowing if this is true. or maybe chucky 2 was actually a chucky 1 in disguise. or maybe they just made the faces more wrinkled to make it look more like chucky 2. either way, it doesn’t really matter.

chucky leaves the room to take a shower while nica runs to the nurse’s office. nica tells him that she and malcom are getting out of here today. chucky tells her she cant leave yet. chucky then ties her to a chair and forces her to watch as he ties malcom up and tortures him. when he is finished, he is about to leave when he hears dr. foley’s voice. chucky listens as dr. foley tells nica that the chucky doll will kill her. nica then manages to get free and run out of the room. nica tells chucky that if he lets her go, she will go to the police. chucky reminds nica that if the police arrest him, they will be sent back to the asylum and she will be in trouble. nica says she doesnt care, and chucky releases her. nica runs to get help, but stops after she sees a nurse moving the chucky doll and malcom doll downstairs. nica runs back to chucky and demands to know what happened. chucky tells her that he saw dr. foley and malcolm having an affair. chucky tells nica that he is going to get rid of her now, and ties her up again. the next day, chucky tells dr. foley and nica that malcolm told him about dr. foley’s affair, and that he isnt going to do anything about it. then he unties them and lets them go.

but as a whole, curse of chucky is a fun movie. and while i didnt love it, i could see why it has its fans. it makes a few good changes and tweaks that could work, and it has a killer doll. and while the chucky doll could be a bit off-putting, its something that is easy to overlook. and the movie has some good performances.
the film has a somewhat downbeat ending, which is a bit of a shame considering how well it starts. it’s a shame because the movie has many clever ideas, and is an especially strong entry in the franchise. it would have been nice if nica could have survived to see the chucky doll in action, but in a way, it’s nice that it was cut short. it’s a much better ending for the story than the original ending which was far too happy. i recommend curse of chucky for fans of the chucky series.
but it’s not perfect, especially in the confusing final scene. one of the most glaring issues is the way in which the chucky is sent back to nica’s mother in the end. unlike in the first movie, there is no real reason why he would go back to her. the movie acknowledges this and that’s why it’s a little hard to believe that the character actually exists. in the first movie, chucky was sent to nica’s mother because he was a representation of nica’s evil side. but in this movie, chucky is sent back to nica’s mother because he’s a representation of the other evil side, nica’s good side. this explanation seems to contradict itself, but at the same time, it is consistent. if chucky was sent to nica’s mother because of nica’s bad side, why does he go back to her? the answer is that there is no real explanation for this, and it doesn’t really matter. what matters is that the film recognizes that he’s a representation of nica’s good side, and if he were to be sent back to nica’s mother, the audience would have no way of knowing if it’s because nica’s evil side had killed her mother or if chucky is actually alive. as long as the audience is kept in the dark about chucky’s situation, the movie is successful.
