Bought this card to use as an amplifier for my x-fi sound card, and it works great! If you are looking for an amplifier for your x-fi, this is the one to get. The sound quality is unbelievably good, and having an analog connection is quite nice. I was in the middle of a long website binge, and when I shut off the x-fi and booted up the computer, I was greeted with a sound that I have never heard before. I know what thunder is, but this is just a lot better! Great sound quality for such an inexpensive device.
This card is very powerful. For $170, it has three digital channel inputs ( S/PDIF/PCM ) and all of the analogue channels are high quality as well. It has a 16-bit ADC, which gives you high quality sampling rates up to 192 kHz. The sound card works great, Im my experience the web host prevents me from using the three digital channels so Im forced to use the two S/PDIF and PCM, but the sound quality is breathtaking.
I bought this card specifically for the AC3 passthrough which means that I can play a Blu-Ray Disc with the Dolby Digital 5.1 track with the X-Fi Pro and at the same time listen to AC3 audio via the sound card so long as the sound card has a 5.1 amplifier. The passthrough from the X-Fi Pro to the SB X-Fi is awesome.
I was a little daunted by the fact that I had no idea how to make this work at all, but it was very simple to setup and works very well. Now there is no reason to use my laptop speakers. The headphones make better sound.
It was all there, the UI looked great, but it was a little glitchy as the nVidia drivers are still in development. As soon as I could get the driver setup, it started to work great. The sound quality is very nice, but the low-latency mode doesnt work properly with the nVidia drivers, so you will get poor audio performance.
